FROM: Tampa, FL
Launched by two music store employees in Tampa, FL, Candy Bars later expanded into the trio of singer/guitarist/keyboard player Daniel Martinez, cellist Melissa Castellano, and drummer Ryan Hastings. After a couple of years of local appearances and private recordings, the members culled the best material to record their debut album, On Cutting Ti-Gers in Half and Understanding Narravation, released by Tampa label New Granada Records on May 16, 2006. While not attending to school, family life and offspring... the band has slowly but surely compiling and recording what will eventually be the follow-up to their critically lauded debut.
PRESS QUOTES:
"Candy Bars persevere in creating a true work of art"
- Under the Radar
"Candy Bars bring weird little abstract worlds to life with seemingly nonsensical lyrics that occasionally flash with cogency, it's like listening to a crazy man who might once have been a genius... There are Beach Boys breezes on the echo-wonderful 'Violets' and 'The Birthday Song' sounds like Mercury Rev...It's all tethered to Martinez's elusive voice, which gets more and more believable as it moves toward peculiar places."
